CHARLIE’S BIRTHDAY RIDE
On June 21, 2020, we tragically lost a young member of the cycling community. Sam Ozer was hit by a car while riding his bike home from work at a local bicycle shop in Philly. A young man, Nadir Nafis Holloman, just 18 years old, also lost his life while cycling in Philly on July 7. Unfortunately, we also lost a close friend, Will Lindsay - just 32 years old - this past Sunday, July 12 while he was riding his bike in Philly.
Velo Amis quite literally means “bike friends”, or “friends of bikes”. It is past time to make a change for safer cycling, and we are committed to helping this change.
With that being said… Velo Amis' very own Charlie will be turning the big 7-0 (shh, don't tell him, he gets grumpy!) on July 25th. To recognize the loss of Sam (whose birthday is July 28th), Charlie will be riding 70 miles. We are asking that you pledge money for every mile that Charlie completes. All the proceeds will benefit Sam’s Place.
The Sam Ozer Fund was created to honor the memory of Samuel Ozer '20, an avid cyclist, budding engineer, environmentalist and outdoorsman who was taken from us far too soon.
Donations to the Sam Ozer Fund will go directly to support the creation and operation of Sam's Place. Sam's Place will be a place where students from AIM Academy and our surrounding community will come to learn skills in bike repair, technology and entrepreneurship from mentors, teachers and students. Sam's Place will create a sense of community for anyone who is interested in biking and has a passion for learning.
Please send the money you want to pledge directly to AIM Academy for Sam’s Place
